Barcelona is making big moves and aiming to acquire three top stars from Man City. In an effort to revive Barcelona, coach Xavi is planning a major shopping spree in the upcoming summer transfer window, targeting the top stars of Man City.
After a period of decline, Barcelona is showing an impressive comeback this season. Currently, Xavi’s team is flying high in the top position on the La Liga table with a 9-point lead over their closest rival, Real Madrid.
The strong resurgence of the Camp Nou team partly stems from effective transfer strategies. In rebuilding the team, Xavi is continuing to focus on upgrading the quality of the squad in the upcoming 2023 summer transfer window.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club is expected to make a big play to acquire a trio of top stars from Manchester City. Specifically, Barcelona is said to be showing particular interest in midfielder Silva, and Bernardo Silva transfer fee of around 65 million euros.
Barcelona has long had plans to sign Bernardo Silva, and sources have confirmed that they had the plan to acquire the Portuguese midfielder last summer. While that deal fell through, Blaugrana still retains its interest in Silva.
In addition to Silva, two other Man City stars, Aymeric Laporte and Ilkay Gundogan are also on Barcelona’s radar. Gundogan’s contract with the Etihad Stadium team expires on June 30th of this year, and there are no signs yet that both parties will continue their relationship. Therefore, Barcelona hopes to sign this experienced star on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Laporte has emerged as a top target for Barcelona’s defense. The Spanish center-back is no longer competing for a starting position in Man City’s lineup, so he is likely to leave soon to seek more playing opportunities in the future.
If Barcelona successfully signs Laporte, their defense will be significantly strengthened, especially as Gerard Pique has retired, and Eric Garcia has not yet met the team’s expectations.
