Chelsea owner met PSG chief to discuss Neymar transfer

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly flew to Paris to discuss with his counterpart Nasser Al Khelaifi at PSG about the possibility of signing star player Neymar.

Boehly met with Al Khelaifi and coach Luis Enrique in Paris to discuss the future of Neymar after Chelsea failed to acquire other star players like Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2022. The American billionaire has not given up on the idea of bringing in a superstar, and Neymar is the most likely target.

Neymar’s contract with PSG is valid until the summer of 2025, but there have been recent rumors that the French club no longer wants to keep him. The 31-year-old forward has scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 28 games this season for PSG, but his relationship with his teammates has been deteriorating. Neymar became angry with the younger players and Sporting Director Luis Campos after PSG lost 1-3 to Monaco on February 11.

Neymar joined PSG in the summer of 2017 for a world record with a Neymar transfer fee of €222 million ($237 million). However, he has not won any European titles since then.

According to CIES, Neymar’s current value is $60 million, while Transfermarkt values the Brazilian star at $80 million. This cost will not be a problem for Chelsea, as they have just spent over $650 million to buy players for the 2022-2023 season.

Chelsea transfer target also includes forward Christopher Nkunku, a younger French player who is not as well-known as Neymar. If he joins Stamford Bridge, the Brazilian star could replace the position of Joao Felix, who is on loan at Chelsea until the end of the season.

In addition to Neymar, Chelsea sources have not mentioned Boehly’s desire to appoint Luis Enrique as a replacement for Graham Potter, although the two have discussed it. Chelsea still sees Potter as a long-term option.

Neymar’s influence at PSG has decreased compared to five years ago when he was only the third-choice option in attack after Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. After 172 matches for PSG, Neymar has scored 117 goals, and won 12 titles, but has yet to win the Champions League. The only Champions League title in his career was in 2015 with Barcelona.
