In August 2018, Chelsea reached an agreement with Athletic Bilbao to sign for Kepa Arrizabalaga a transfer fee of £71.6 million. Because Thibaut Courtois was looking for ways to move to Real Madrid, Chelsea had to find a new goalkeeper in the transfer market and they decided to activate the release clause of Kepa Arrizabalaga, the 23-year-old Spanish goalkeeper. The Spaniard has put pen to paper on a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

At that time, Kepa was 23 years old, had more than 100 matches in professional leagues, and was rich in experience with 50 appearances in La Liga. His stable performance helped him be called up to Spain’s squad for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

After arriving at Stamford Bridge, Kepa became the sixth Spaniard in the “Blues” squad, along with Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, and Morata.

At the beginning of 2018, Kepa was almost a Real Madrid man. However, despite having agreed on a Kepa Arrizabalaga transfer fee of 20 million euros with Bilbao and even scheduled a debut, president Florentino Pérez and his associates still had to cancel this deal.

In the past season, Kepa had a great opportunity to start for Chelsea in the matches against Man City (January 15), Brighton (January 19), and Tottenham (January 23). Those are important matches for Chelsea in the race to win the Premier League this season. Kepa can entirely replace Mendy as the top 1 if he is properly caught.

The display of Kepa’s savvy playing attitude in the most recent League Cup match against Tottenham has added another strength of his. Kepa can look forward to a bright future when his goalkeeping skill set is perfect if he works on his mentality and attention.
