Mbappe doesn’t want to leave PSG this summer

mbappe leave psg this summer

Forward Kylian Mbappe is only willing to leave PSG if he doesn’t lose too much money compared to his income of $163 million, which includes salary and loyalty fees for the remaining year of his contract.

On June 22nd, PSG Community reported that Paris Saint-Germain had agreed to sell Mbappe to Real Madrid for around $270 million. According to the deal, the Spanish club would pay an upfront Kylian Mbappe transfer fee of $215 million, along with an additional $55 million depending on the number of matches Mbappe plays for Real and whether he wins the Ballon d’Or or not.

However, yesterday, the Spanish newspaper Marca stated that the transfer is not as straightforward as it seems. According to their sources, the French striker does not want to lose $163 million in the remaining year of his contract with PSG. Of that amount, $65 million is his salary, while $98 million is the loyalty fee based on the terms agreed upon in May 2022.

Is Mbappe leaving PSG? Mbappe sees the ideal scenario as continuing to play for PSG in the 2023-2024 season to receive the full amount mentioned above. After that, the 24-year-old forward could negotiate with Real from January 2024 and join the Bernabeu as a free agent in the summer. It is said that he would demand a signing bonus of over $100 million.

So what are Mbappe transfer demands to leave PSG? Marca emphasizes that Mbappe will only accept a transfer away from PSG this summer if he doesn’t lose a significant amount of money. However, Real is currently offering Mbappe a salary of $32 million per season, which is only half of his current earnings at PSG. The reason is that they cannot afford high wages and a substantial signing bonus if they have to pay over $270 million in transfer fees to PSG.

As a result, PSG feels “deceived” and wants to sell Mbappe this summer. However, Marca reports that the deal is not easy to happen because it requires the agreement of all three parties involved: Mbappe, PSG, and Real. The Ligue 1 champions understand that Mbappe holds the advantage in these negotiations, regardless of how many ultimatums they present.

One option that PSG is considering is significantly reducing the transfer fee from Real if Mbappe agrees to leave this summer and forfeit the loyalty fee.

Previously, according to ESPN, President Nasser Al-Khelaifi accepted to sell Mbappe for over $160 million. This figure is close to the $174 million valuation recently announced by the Football Observatory (CIES) in their ranking of the world’s top football superstars for 2023.

Mbappe moved to PSG in the summer of 2017 on loan from Monaco before being permanently acquired for $200 million. He became one of the PSG most expensive signings in history. The French forward quickly became a key player for PSG, scoring 212 goals and providing 98 assists in 260 matches across all competitions, helping the club win five Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, two French League Cups, and two French Super Cups.

However, in recent summers, he has consistently shown his desire to leave. On June 12th, Mbappe sent a letter to the management to inform them that he would adhere to his contract until June 2024 and not activate the extension clause until June 2025. This means that PSG will lose him for free in the summer of 2024 if they cannot sell him this time.
