Striker Roberto Firmino has agreed to join Barcelona in the summer after his contract with Liverpool expires.
The Brazilian player’s contract with The Kop will end at the conclusion of the season. Last month, the English press confirmed that Firmino would leave the Reds after 8 years of service.
Roberto Firmino has decided to leave Liverpool after the 2022/23 season, ending an 8-year association with the Reds. Roberto Firmino is one of the top 10 of Liverpool most expensive signings. Although his current form is not as impressive as before, his class and experience make him a highly sought-after player by many clubs.
And according to the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old player has agreed to join Barcelona on a free transfer. There were previous reports of Firmino being linked to a move to AS Roma or Real Madrid. However, he ultimately chose to join the team from Catalonia.
Specifically, Brazilian striker Firmino and Barcelona have found common ground on a contract between the two sides. According to the agreement, Firmino will join Camp Nou in the summer transfer window of 2023 as a free Barcelona transfer fee.
Currently, Barcelona has many attacking stars, but many of them are uncertain about leaving the club, such as Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, and even Raphinha. Due to financial issues, the Catalan giant cannot be aggressive in the transfer market.
Therefore, the name Firmino with a price tag of free is a quality addition to Barcelona’s attacking line in the upcoming season. In addition to the Catalan club, Real Madrid has also targeted this star as Karim Benzema is getting older and is prone to injury this season.
However, Barcelona was quicker than their arch-rival to reach an agreement with Firmino. With his proven quality, he is still a highly anticipated name for Blaugrana fans in the coming period.
Firmino joined Liverpool in a £29 million deal from Hoffenheim in 2015. During his time at Liverpool, Firmino helped the Merseyside club win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup.
He formed a deadly attacking trio with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. In total, Firmino has played 360 games for Liverpool, scoring 109 goals and providing 79 assists.
However, Firmino’s playing time has decreased this season as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been revamping his aging squad. The emergence of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo has limited the Brazilian striker to only 12 Premier League starts this season.
A recent hamstring injury will keep Firmino out of the next three games, but Liverpool is hopeful that he will return before the end of the season. Klopp is said to be keen on keeping Firmino at Anfield, but the striker is looking for a new challenge. Therefore, The Reds need some new Liverpool transfer targets this summer.
In the current season, Firmino has made 31 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool, contributing 11 goals and 5 assists – a relatively impressive figure. Most recently, he scored a goal to help the Reds draw 2-2 with Arsenal in the 30th round of the English Premier League on April 9.
Unfortunately, he has recently suffered an injury and will be sidelined for at least 3 weeks. In terms of statistics, Firmino is outperforming many of Barcelona’s attacking stars such as Fati, Torres, and Dembele.
