Recent revelations from Messi’s representative have shed light on the possibility of the Argentine superstar returning to play for Barcelona.
Lionel Messi was forced to leave Barca in the summer of 2021 due to the club’s financial difficulties and their inability to renew their contract with the greatest footballer in their history. Messi then joined Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract which is set to expire this summer.
Barca is currently in talks to reunite with the 1987-born star, with the club’s president Laporta frequently expressing his desire to “rekindle old flames” with El Pulga.
However, Messi’s brother Matias, who is also the 35-year-old superstar’s representative, asserts that the 7-time Golden Foot award winner will NOT return to Barca, and if he does, President Laporta will have to be fired.
On Tomi’s Twitch stream, Messi’s nephew Matias spoke about Barca: “I have a SPORT clip saying ‘Messi should return to Barca’ and I respond like ‘Hahahaha, we will not return to Barcelona, and even if we do, we need a clean sweep. That includes getting rid of Laporta’.
“I don’t know about you, but Barca is known because of Messi. Nobody knew about them before. Everyone (in Barcelona) didn’t support my brother. They should have organized a protest or something like ‘Let Laporta go and let Messi stay’. The Spaniards are traitors. I say this because I want our feelings to be heard.”
With these comments, it is highly unlikely that Messi will return to Barca. And perhaps he will have to wait until the term of President Joan Laporta ends before the Argentine star can once again return to his former home.
Messi spent 21 years at Barca, winning a total of 35 titles with the club. He also won six out of his seven Golden Footballs at Camp Nou.
